Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine develops an abnormal side-to-side curvature, often forming an “S” or “C” shape. It can develop during childhood or adolescence, but adults may also experience scoliosis related to age, degeneration, or previous spinal changes. Some people have very mild curves with few symptoms, while others may experience back pain, muscle tension, stiffness, uneven posture, or changes in mobility.
At McKenney Chiropractic, our role is to evaluate the musculoskeletal effects of scoliosis and determine whether conservative chiropractic care may be appropriate for your individual needs. Chiropractic care does not replace medical monitoring or specialty treatment for scoliosis, but it may be used to help address discomfort, muscle tension, restricted movement, or other mechanical issues associated with the condition.
Scoliosis is often first noticed when one shoulder appears higher than the other, the hips look uneven, or the body seems to lean slightly to one side. A physical examination can help identify signs of spinal curvature, and X-rays may be recommended to better understand the degree and location of the curve. Children and teenagers with suspected scoliosis should receive appropriate evaluation and ongoing monitoring as they grow.
For patients who may benefit from chiropractic care, treatment is tailored to the individual. Depending on your symptoms and examination findings, care may include chiropractic adjustments, therapeutic modalities, massage therapy, rehabilitation, or other services designed to support mobility and comfort.
Every case of scoliosis is different, so the goal is not to place every patient on the same treatment plan. Our team will review your history, evaluate how your spine and surrounding joints are moving, and explain whether chiropractic care may be a helpful part of your overall approach.
