SCIATICA

Personalized care focused on relieving discomfort, improving movement, and helping you get back to everyday life.

Sciatica can cause pain that begins in the lower back or buttock and travels down the leg, sometimes reaching the calf, ankle, or foot. Symptoms may include aching, burning, tingling, numbness, or weakness, and they can make sitting, standing, walking, working, or sleeping uncomfortable. At McKenney Chiropractic, our goal is to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and determine whether chiropractic care is an appropriate part of your treatment plan.

Understanding Sciatica

Sciatica refers to symptoms associated with irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve or the nerve roots that contribute to it. Because the sciatic nerve travels from the lower back through the buttock and down the leg, irritation along this pathway can create symptoms in several different areas. Some people experience constant discomfort, while others notice symptoms that come and go depending on movement, activity, or position.

What Can Cause Sciatica?

Sciatic symptoms can have several possible causes. Disc bulges or herniations, changes within the joints of the lower back, injuries, repetitive physical stress, and other conditions affecting the lumbar spine may contribute to irritation of the nerve. Pregnancy and other changes in posture or movement can also place additional stress on the lower back and surrounding structures. Because similar symptoms can develop for different reasons, an evaluation is important before deciding on treatment.

Chiropractic Care for Sciatica

Our doctors begin by reviewing your symptoms, health history, previous injuries, and how your discomfort is affecting your daily activities. An examination can help determine what structures may be contributing to your symptoms and whether additional imaging or medical evaluation is appropriate.

Depending on your findings, care may include chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression, therapeutic modalities, massage therapy, rehabilitation, or other services available at McKenney Chiropractic. Treatment is based on your individual condition, comfort level, and goals rather than a standard plan for every patient.

Start With an Evaluation

You do not need to know exactly what is causing the pain before scheduling an appointment. If discomfort, tingling, or numbness is traveling from your lower back or buttock into your leg, our team can evaluate your symptoms and help you determine the appropriate next step.
