The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, which also means many different structures can contribute to pain or limited movement. Shoulder discomfort may develop suddenly after an injury or gradually from repetitive activity, sports, work, posture, overuse, arthritis, or changes in the muscles and joints surrounding the shoulder. At McKenney Chiropractic, our goal is to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and determine the right approach to care.

Understanding Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain can feel different from one patient to the next. Some people experience a constant ache, while others notice sharp pain with certain movements, weakness, stiffness, clicking, or difficulty raising the arm. Discomfort may come directly from the shoulder itself, but the neck, upper back, muscles, joints, and surrounding nerves can also contribute to symptoms in the shoulder and arm.

Because several different conditions can produce similar symptoms, an evaluation is important before beginning treatment. Our doctors will review your health history, recent injuries, daily activities, and movement to better understand what may be involved.

When Should You Have Shoulder Pain Evaluated?
Recurring or persistent shoulder pain is worth paying attention to, especially when it begins interfering with normal movement or everyday activities. Difficulty lifting your arm, carrying objects, sleeping comfortably, exercising, or completing repetitive tasks may be signs that the shoulder needs further evaluation. Swelling, bruising, unusual clicking, weakness, or discomfort that continues to return should also be discussed with a healthcare provider.

Chiropractic Care for Shoulder Pain
Depending on your examination findings, conservative care may include chiropractic adjustments, joint mobilization, soft tissue techniques, massage therapy, therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation, or other services available at McKenney Chiropractic. Treatment may focus on the shoulder itself, surrounding muscles and joints, the neck and upper back, or a combination of areas depending on what may be contributing to your symptoms.

Every patient is different, so your treatment plan is built around your condition, comfort level, activity level, and goals. Our team will explain what we find and help you understand the options available before moving forward with care.

Start With an Evaluation
You do not need to know exactly what is causing your shoulder pain before scheduling an appointment. If pain, stiffness, or limited movement is affecting your work, exercise, sleep, or everyday activities, our Belleview chiropractic team can help evaluate your symptoms and determine the appropriate next step.
