BACK PAIN

Personalized care to help you move more comfortably and get back to the things you enjoy.

Back pain can affect nearly every part of your day, from sitting at work and getting a good night's sleep to exercising, driving, or spending time with your family. It may develop suddenly after an injury or gradually from repetitive movement, physical strain, posture, or changes within the spine and surrounding tissues. At McKenney Chiropractic, our goal is to understand what may be contributing to your discomfort and create a care plan based on your individual needs.

Understanding Back Pain

The back is made up of bones, joints, discs, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves that all work together to support movement and stability. Because so many structures are involved, back pain can have a variety of causes. Some patients experience muscle tightness or stiffness, while others may have sharp pain, limited movement, or symptoms that travel into the hips or legs.

Common contributors may include muscle or ligament strain, repetitive stress, joint irritation, disc-related conditions, previous injuries, or changes in the way the body is moving. An evaluation can help determine which structures may be involved and what type of care may be appropriate.

Disc-Related Back Pain

The discs between the vertebrae help absorb force and allow the spine to move. When a disc becomes irritated, bulges, or herniates, it may contribute to back pain or symptoms such as numbness, tingling, or discomfort traveling into the legs.

Not every disc condition causes symptoms, which is why treatment should be based on your individual presentation rather than an imaging result alone. Our doctors will review your history, evaluate your movement, and determine whether additional imaging or care may be appropriate.

Muscle Strains and Everyday Stress

Back pain can also develop after lifting, twisting, exercising, working, or performing movements your body is not accustomed to. Muscles and surrounding soft tissues can become irritated or tight, making movement uncomfortable.

Stress may also contribute to increased muscle tension, particularly through the neck, shoulders, and lower back. Addressing movement, muscle tension, and other contributing factors may help improve comfort and function.

Chiropractic Care for Back Pain

Depending on your evaluation, your care may include chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression, massage therapy, therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation, or other services available at McKenney Chiropractic.

Every patient is different, and there is no single treatment plan that works for everyone. Our team will explain what we find, discuss your options, and recommend care based on your symptoms, goals, and overall health.
